Passage extraction

Passage extraction lets engines rank and cite a specific section of a page, independently of the rest. The page is no longer the unit of relevance — the passage takes its place.

In practice

Since Google introduced passage ranking and generative engines followed, each section lives on its own terms: explicit heading, answer at the top, self-sufficient on reading. A long, well-sectioned page becomes a portfolio of candidate passages — which is exactly how we structure guides and articles: each H2 could be cited alone without losing its meaning.
