Exit rate

Exit rate measures the proportion of sessions that end on a given page, regardless of how deep the navigation went. It differs from bounce rate, which counts only single-page sessions. Exit rate is most meaningful when analyzed within a specific user journey.

In practice

A high exit rate on a payment confirmation page is normal — that is where conversions complete. Conversely, a 50% exit rate on a product presentation page within a purchase funnel signals friction: form complexity, missing information, or an unexpected price. Analyzing exit rates page by page through the conversion funnel precisely identifies where users drop off.
