Franchise

A contract by which a company grants independent operators the right to use its brand, know-how and support in exchange for an entry fee and ongoing royalties. The franchisee runs the business; the franchisor provides the tools and framework.

In practice

The model multiplies a proven concept without proportional equity investment: each new outlet is financed by its operator. Network resilience depends on the franchisee’s unit economics — a typical P&L that actually works — more than on the franchisor’s charisma. Durable networks sell documented profitability, not brand aesthetics. In France, 2,100 franchise networks represent 90,000 outlets and 800,000 jobs; the five-year survival rate for franchisees (92%) far exceeds that of independent start-ups (50%).
