Grounding (factual anchoring)
Grounding connects a model’s generation to verifiable sources consulted at response time. It reduces hallucinations and makes citation concrete: the anchored source is the displayed source.
In practice
Gemini grounds in the Google index, ChatGPT in Bing and its partners, Perplexity in its own crawl. Being groundable becomes an objective: content accessible to search agents, dated facts, phrasings that can be lifted cleanly. The page that anchors a response wins the citation — and the authority the interface lends it.
