A multi-turn response refers to an AI assistant’s ability to maintain conversation context across several successive exchanges, with each response taking prior questions into account. It transforms search from a single query into an exploratory dialogue.
In practice
A user who asks in sequence 'what is local SEO,' then 'how to do it myself for a bakery,' then 'how much does it cost to outsource' is conducting a multi-turn search. The assistant builds understanding with each exchange. For publishers, this means that content answering only the opening question while failing to prepare for follow-up questions loses relevance in this new paradigm. FAQ structures and nested Q&A formats are particularly well suited to this context.
