Title tag

The title tag is a page’s title as displayed by search engines in their results. It remains one of the most direct on-page signals and the first argument for a click against competing results.

In practice

Best practice: the distinguishing information first, the brand at the end, the whole thing under roughly sixty characters to avoid truncation. Google rewrites titles it deems unsuitable — a generic or duplicated title across a hundred pages loses all control over the displayed message. Every template our engine produces generates a unique title per page, including local data.
